SUMMARY:Wild Goose Festival Presents Wisdom Camp 2019: New Seeds of Integration
DESCRIPTION:New Seeds of Integration: A Wide-Awake Contemplative Experience \n“Where there is no vision\, the people perish; but blessed are those who heed wisdom’s way.”\n— Proverbs 29:18 \nWisdom: A way of sensing\, seeing\, and perceiving the sometimes-hidden wholeness behind reality; greater conscious connections between Spirit\, self\, others\, and world. \nContemplative practices: Ways of exercising our Wisdom-perceiving muscles.  \nOur inner and outer landscapes are often constricted; our souls (soils) are tired. “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies\,” Jesus said\, “it can only be a single seed. But if it dies\, it bears much fruit.” \nWhat is planted in the Adamah (אדמה) can stir life or death in the humus of humanity. What are we cultivating? \nThomas Merton wrote over 50 years ago in New Seeds of Contemplation: “To enter into the realm of contemplation\, one must in a certain sense die: but this death is in fact the entrance into a higher life. It is a death for the sake of life\, which leaves behind all that we can know or treasure as life\, as thought\, as experience\, as joy\, as being. Every form of intuition and experience die to be born again on a higher level of life.” \nThose of us yearning and working for a more loving\, equitable planet experience dying in many forms: \nPolitical upheaval\, ecological devastation\, racial oppression\, social disintegration\, and spiritual despair.  \nHow can we continue working in our vital vocations — be we minister\, artist\, activist\, teacher\, parent — without depleting our soils or souls? \nIs it possible to slow down and nourish ourselves with what truly sustains\, even as we continue feeding others? \nIs it possible to marry our outer work with inner energy? \nAt Wisdom Camp\, we think so…and on the morning of the Wild Goose Festival launch\, we intend to spend a day together exploring these wisdom-ways of seeing\, these new seeds of integration! \nDrawing on time-tested streams of contemplative seeing — from the spirituality of Jesus\, the compost of Christianity\, interspiritual and trans-racial lineages of Buddhism and Quaker practice\, and more — this year’s Wisdom Camp brings us water from deep wells. \nJoin us as we set the table for: \n\nDivine communion\nGenuine play\nSeeing and being seen\nHealing silence\nResting in our bodies\nTelling better stories\n\nCome to this one-day celebration of contemplative practice\, resourcing you for the life you live the rest of the year! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur Guides:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDavid Bollt\nLerita Coleman Brown\nBushi Yamato Damashii\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAline Deflglia\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCassidy Hall\nMike Morrell\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRainier Wylde\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCheck In for pre-festival events will be available on Wednesday from 1 pm to 5 pm\, and Thursday from 7am to 9 am.\nIf you’re tent camping\, there’s no additional campsite charge for Wednesday night.\nSome campsite locations are restricted due to large venue tent construction in several areas.\nRVr’s will need to purchase an additional night.

SUMMARY:Healthy and Holy: A 24-Hour Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Exploring the image of God in ourselves\, our bodies\, and our relationships – register here. \nWhat if you could take a day to ground in what’s real: \n\nFor your spiritual sensitivity\nFor your physical vitality\nFor your emotional vibrancy \nFor your relational harmony\n\nFor 24 hours in February\, we’ll spend time together diving into just such wisdom and experience. \nHealthy. \nWhile having the tools you need to be healthy might have been simple and straightforward a couple generations ago\, it’s not so simple in our modern world. Our processed foods\, our screens and devices\, our sedentary lifestyles\, and the chronic stress levels associated with modern life all make it difficult for us to access the good health that’s innate within us. The journey starts with understanding just a little bit about how your body works and some of the major issues that have interfered with your health in this generation. Innovative board certified family physician Dr. Gus Vickery offers us the knowledge\, orientation and actions we need to put health back into our own hands. \n \nHoly. \nHoliness – being ‘set apart’ and held as sacred – has a deep history in our planet’s spiritual traditions. In The Divine Dance: The Trinity and Your Transformation\, Richard Rohr and Mike Morrell explored what it could mean to take God as relationship seriously\, and therefore take relationships as Divine seriously. Now\, Mike and seasoned Relational Skills facilitator David Bollt guide participants in a deep-dive exploration of seeing each other as living icons of the truly transcendent. Through a series of fun and interactive group exercises\, we explore individuality and interdependence\, and interplay between the present moment\, the stories we bear\, and our future-directed fears and hopes. In the process we get to know ourselves better and appreciate others more fully. Through “practicing the presence of people\,” we have the opportunity to do nothing less than see God in each other. \nHealthy and Holy is already at half capacity. We’d love to be with you – please register here.

SUMMARY:Wisdom Camp: Contemplative Resilience for Dangerous Living
DESCRIPTION:I’m throwing a party on Thursday\, July 13th – and I hope you can join us. \nWisdom Camp continues the wildly successful tradition of last year’s Wild Goose Mystic Action Camp\, curated by my friend Holly Roach\, that featured voices like Dyron Holmes\, Adam Bucko\, Mirabai Starr and Matthew Fox. \nOppression\, tyranny\, abuse and injustice seem to be everywhere we turn and people are mobilizing at record highs\, for which I’m grateful. But I’m also seeing alot of activists – as well as ministers\, social workers\, not to mention parents and just plain caring people of all stripes – getting burned out. \nSo in great Goose fashion\, I decided to gather together friends and colleagues deeply rooted in their contemplative lineages\, to call and equip us to ways of active being that don’t drain us\, but instead allow us to commune with our source even as we’re poured out on behalf of others. \nAt Wisdom Camp\, I want to see us set meaning in motion in fresh ways.  \nIt’s a one day – Thursday only – retreat on the grounds of the Wild Goose Festival in beautiful Hot Springs\, NC for only $59\, including free camping for your convenience on Wednesday evening. \nIt will be a more intimate gathering than the Festival proper\, with a good mix of inspiring teaching and hands-on\, try-it-out practice. \nJoin us as we seek deeper depths and more joyful ways to pursue the healing of our world! \n \nSpeakers and Storytellers \nDrawing from the deepest reservoirs of Jesus-informed spirituality alongside receptive hearts to other vital wisdom lineages\, Wisdom Camp equips us to take up these resources together\, fearlessly and lovingly facing the present moment\, in all its beauty and pain alike. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLerita Coleman Brown\, PhD\, Professor of Psychology Emerita at Agnes Scott College\, is a spiritual companion/director\, writer\, retreat leader\, and speaker. In this talk Lama Rod explores the profound and revolutionary practices of love as a tool for marginalized people to achieve both social and spiritual liberation that is rooted in the liberatory theology and dharma traditions. \nLynyetta Willis: Soul Sight: from Shame to Compassion \nWe often act from parts of us that carry beliefs of brokenness\, shame and not enough-ness; however\, when we connect with the Divine within\, we see ourselves\, others\, and the world through eyes of love\, compassion and wholeness. This session explores how to shift our mindset from shame-sight to Soul Sight. This session will combine teaching with experiential exercises that will help participants not only connect with our Divine essence\, but also gain a deeper understanding of and appreciation for those parts of ourselves that carry the brokenness and shame. Participants will leave able to view themselves with a softer gaze of self-love and as a result reflect the same healing energy outwardly towards the world. \nGeorge Craig McMillian: The Tantra of Jesus Christ \nDrawing from his experience as a devotee of Jesus\, a Kalachakra Monk\, and a Kundalini Laya Yoga teacher\, Kirantana Khalsa – aka George Craig McMillian – looks at how Jesus rested in the trust\, voice\, and guidance of Spirit – and how you can do the same\, practically and everyday\, with confidence that you can act appropriately and wisely as the challenges of each moment unfold. \nDavid Bollt & Aline Defiglia: Practicing the Presence of People \nWho are you? Who is this stranger – or friend – standing next to you? Dive into fun\, highly interactive group exercises that explore the present moment as well as the stories we all bear – getting to know yourself better while at the same time learning to see and appreciate more about everyone you connect with. This space of “practicing the presence of people” becomes a safe space for taking risks\, playing outside our comfort zones and discovering more about ourselves than we typically do in our everyday lives. Just as contemplatives and mystics go beyond their ordinary awareness to experience an expanded sense of communion with God\, we’ll practice Jesus’ second great commandment and see the Divine show up in our neighbor’s face. Aline Defiglia and David Bollt set a tone that’s equal parts fun and profound\, creating a container where anyone willing can go beyond small-talk and social awkwardness. \nMike Morrell: Evolving Wild: Wisdom Interventions for a Primal Future \nWhat do hunter-gatherers\, developmental psychology\, and forgotten Bible stories have in common? A surprising common revelation about the trauma of our origins – and the way through them. In this far-ranging exploration\, we’ll look at the recurring mysteries of who we are as a species\, how we wound up in a cul-de-sac of disconnection from Spirit\, self\, society\, and our surroundings – and how we can consciously choose re-connection. It isn’t too late\, and the wisdom we need is hiding in plain sight. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCarl McColman: Embodied Liberation: Contemplation\, Chaos\, Crisis and Compassion\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAre practices like mindfulness meditation or centering prayer simply the way privileged people manage their stress? Or do these “interior” disciplines invite us into a new way of seeing and being Christ in the world? By weaving together theological reflection\, conversation\, and silence\, Carl McColman looks at how contemplative practices can be abused by our consumer culture — but also how they invite us into a transfigured life of radical service\, joy\, and care. “Silence is praise!” proclaims the oft-mistranslated first verse of Psalm 65: but it’s not only praise\, it’s also a vocation: to a deeper way of knowing\, a new way of seeing\, and a compassionate way of working for justice and peace. \n\nIn the exile of inhumanity\, we’re discovering our kinship with all creation.\nIn the branching sorrows of seemingly-endless conflict\, we’re rooting in the eternal joy of the Divine.\nCome discover the stories\, tools\, and practices that reconnect us to God\, ourselves\, each other\, and our world.
