…and, a little levity:

As far as I can tell, they’re like a combination of community organizer, gravity enhancer, and social butterfly. In a nutshell, God particles are part Obama, part Bono, and part Marilyn Monroe.

Is there nothing religion will not claim?

Kevin, as I understand it, it wasn’t “religion” that claimed that phrase, but rather, the marketing people who worked with the scientists who first theorized them.

Hello Roger. Yes. Marketing people, media people and a ton of hype to confuse and confound the rest of us into believing…whatever.

My preferred source for a layman’s take on this stuff is Michio Kaku. According to him the search for the Higgs boson is about efforts to finalize the standard model. He says the standard model only accounts for 4% of the matter and energy in the universe and that it doesn’t consider gravity.

Because it speaks with only one voice – authority – when religion speaks people listen. So I wish religion would stick to its knitting. It looks pretentious when it speaks about big things that don’t relate.

Love the levity, Mike:) How’s this gravity for a science-religion BOTH-AND… I call it rational faith:

(42:1.2) Matter—energy…are but diverse manifestations of the same cosmic reality, as a universe phenomenon is inherent in the Universal Father. “In him all things consist.” Matter may appear to manifest inherent energy and to exhibit self-contained powers, but the lines of gravity involved in the energies concerned in all these physical phenomena are derived from, and are dependent on, Paradise. The ultimaton, the first measurable form of energy, has Paradise as its nucleus.
