The weight is over! Bwa-ha-ha…okay, sorry. I couldn’t resist. Here is my first-ever ROM workout video:
There was so much gabbing going on I didn’t go as fast as I would’ve liked (or as smokin’ as you’ll see me on subsequent vids) Nonetheless, my friends who participated did a fine job. At the camera: Irish peace activist and film critic, the good Doctor Gareth Higgins. Standing in for technical and moral support is my housechurch-mate John of PaperBackSwap fame. Providing ambiance are the wonder twins behind Zehnder.
Thankyew, thankyew. The first in a yearlong journey!
Yeee-ahhhhhhh! The ROM workout journey begins! I’m lovin’ it.
Two thoughts though:
1) That ROM looks crazy big! Is it just ginormous? I don’t have a “gare-edge” to put it in, so I might have to stick it in my living room, if I got one. Not sure my wife would go for that …
2) You need to work on your ROM workout tagline. “Keep workin’ out” just doesn’t cut it for me. You need something … ROM-ier … like … “This is Mike Morrell on the 2009 ROM Workout Journey … saying, ROM-bop-a-loo-loo, I’ll see YOU – next time!”
Errr, something like that. Maybe other blog readers have suggestions on that??
Or you can work on that some more too yourself, while you’re at it 😉
Other than that, good work Mike, Gareth, and John! I can’t wait to see the leg workout!!!
Inspirational Mike. I think you need a new tag line too. What if you altered the lyrics to the mary poppins song “a spoon full of sugar makes the medicine go down” to “four minutes on the Rom makes the tire go flat, tire go flat, tire go flat.”
Does it tell you how many calories you burned and other such display things?
I am looking forward to being a faithful follower of this journey. I’m already scheming how to get one myself. I am sure seeing if it is effective for you will make me scheme further.
Hey there Gunnar,
Just wondering if you ever purchased one. I deal with used ones. I’ll share some results with you from World Class Athletes and Champion fighters if your interested.
ROM is the way to go. you probably buff out your tris with that machine.
Very inspiring! I was surprised to see that the ROM doesn’t appear to require any lower-body movement, although it looks like you did get a very thorough workout. Soon you’ll become one of those buff studs who post their every workout on YouTube. Good choice for music – I love Zehnder! – although I may send you some Mickey Hart (drummer for the Grateful Dead) for a more tribal ambiance…
Thnaks for posting avid about it. It is difficult following steps if it is not accompanied by a picture or video.Bloggers should follow your example by providing vid. Goodluck and i’ll try doing some myself!
Amazing. It looks much more difficult than I would of first thought. I look forward to seeing your progress. Does the ROM have a lower body workout?
The Zhender guys seem cool and all but playing some “Eye of the Tiger” instead would make it seem like you’re working much harder than you already are.
Keep it up, you’re an inspiration to us all, and by “us” I mean all of me that needs to do the same!
Thanks for the feedback so far, all! To respond to a couple of the most general queries:
* There’s an upper-body portion one day and a lower body the next. And believe me, the lower-body is a beast!
* The ROM’s not super-gargantuan. I’ve heard more than one owner or in-person viewer describe it as “a work of art” and say they wouldn’t mind having one in their living room.
* I’m going to feature a wide variety of music on this-here ROM Show! So if you want, feel free to send me mixes and suggestions of hilarious tunes approximating 4 minutes.
Yeah. How exercised you feel after a workout is all about how fast the music goes.
wow…. keep workin’ out?
🙂 i know you can do better than that. I will be sending you a work-out mix.
I guess now I know why the routine only lasts four minutes, eh?
I am brimming with questions!
Does the four minute workout concept work regardless of how many times you move the machine during the four minutes? I mean, you were goin pretty slowly there, overall 🙂
Does every ROM come with a personal coach? (You mentioned you have a coach to meet with?)
I think you should involve a strobe light, personally 🙂
Hey, if you would happen to do TWO four minute workouts…say, one in the morning, and one in the afternoon, will you lose weight that much quicker?
And what about cardio?
On a scale where “work of art” is on the left, and “medieval torture machine” is on the right, where exactly does the ROM seem to be falling for you, in psychological terms? 🙂
I get to make fun of you publically for a whole year…this is gonna be great! 😉 Thank you ROM company!
PS- are they offering any discounts to members of your viewing community?
Hey there Heather. I don’t know if your questions were known by a new ROM owner. Doing 4am and pm will do your body harm. It is strength training and muscles REQUIRE 48 hrs recovery. I own 9 at this time and a few fitness clubs and have had different people “think” they could do that very thing. They worked the upper am and pm then lower the next day am and pm. After only 1 week each one said “I quit the first week. I was worn out all week and never recovered”.
By the way I can connect you with used one’s if your looking.
Cool deal. Looking forward to seeing the journey. I’m trying to do 45-one hour at least in the gym/pool 3 times a week. We’ll see who drops the weight quicker… I’ll bet its you.
Dude — that does not make me want to get a ROM. Maybe I’m just not the target demographic. 🙂
It looks like a very effective workout.
Don’t forget to stretch.
Great. Thanks to those back shots, I now have to go repent of my sin of lust. Next time, though, I would like to see that while you’re gargling chili. (Actually, with the asking price of a ROM, it should use your expended energy to make you the chili.)
And how about as your sign off, “And remember, for quick workouts, it’s all about continual resistance through a range of motion.” That works in the brand name.
Can you show us what the display tells you?
I agree with the many who are calling for a new tagline. A man of your creative excellence can do much better than “keep working out.” I may have to stop being of fan of yours on Facebook until that weak attempt is rectified. 😉
Also, you should give us accurate measurements and weight at least once per month so we can track with you. Until then, “keep working out!”
How about “Keep on ROMmin’…”
Alright, alright already! I’ll work on a better tagline. Sheesh… 🙂
Did you pay the full price of $14,615 or did you get it at a used ROM lot?
I didn’t pay that much for my first 5 cars combined!
you’re off to a great start!
So I’m just getting around to watching your ROM videos for the first time. Fantastic. Keep it up. I’m curious: were you sore after the first workout?
